IMPULSE CONTROL

EXTRA READING

WAIT

Teaching dogs to "wait" at thresholds is great for impulse control and good manners! Wait can be used for barrier control in many applications:

Entering and exiting doorways

Entering and exiting the crate

Entering or exiting the car

Keeping your dog out of areas  such as the kitchen, office, dining room

Control at the door as visitors enter

Control going up and down stairs

LEAVE IT

"Leave it!" is SO much more than simply "don't touch". We want the dog to disengage and actively remove themselves as part of this skill. Leave-it is a great skill to address impulse control, but is also useful for daily situations.
