ABOUT K9OLOGY & CHARLOTTE WAGNER, Bsc Hons
Charlotte Wagner, BSc Hons, is a Certified Dog Trainer and Behaviorist with more than 20 years of experience working with dogs and their people. Through K9ology, she offers a wide range of services, including semi-private group training classes, personalized one-on-one programs, board and train options, educational seminars, and engaging community events.
Her training philosophy is rooted in science-based methods, positive reinforcement, motivation, and clear communication using a clicker or verbal marker. Charlotte emphasizes practical, real-world training that is both effective and enjoyable, with a mission to empower dogs and their owners through successful learning and confident handling.
Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, Charlotte tailors her training and behavior work to the unique needs of each dog and handler team. She believes in looking beyond simple compliance, honoring each dog as an individual, and creating customized strategies that support lasting progress and a stronger human-canine relationship.
Charlotte began her career in Rockville, Maryland, working with shelter dogs while studying psychology in college. Recognizing that her future lay in a more animal-focused field, Charlotte moved to England to study at the University of Essex / Writtle Agricultural College. There, she earned a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Animal Science and was recognized with the Most Improved Student Award among her classmates. During her college years, she also operated K9Paws Dog Training in London.
In 2012, Charlotte returned to the United States and settled full-time in Rappahannock County, Virginia. While working as a veterinary technician, she began building K9ology, which quickly grew into a full-time business and led to the opening of the company’s first storefront in Warrenton.
After navigating the challenges of the COVID era, Charlotte purchased land and opened the K9ology Center in Sperryville, where she continues to operate on a part-time basis. The facility is also home to Leslie Shriner, who provides specialty grooming services through Aspiration Pet Grooming.
Today, Charlotte divides her time between farming, connecting with community members, teaching new clients, and volunteering throughout the Shenandoah Valley, where K9ology’s boarding and residential training program is now based. Her work reflects a deep commitment to bringing science-based training and behavior services to a broad and diverse community.
Charlotte is a scientist first and foremost (hello, dog nerd)! But she also a Nikon Professional Photographer, preservation breeder, public speaker, and published writer.
