BOARD - AND - LEARN
The K9O Board and Learn Program combines intensive daily training at our home with owner-focused private lessons and extra maintenance group classes for the ultimate training experience!
1. BOARD AND LEARN
Dogs stay with us at for 2-3 weeks for the board and train portion of this program. The first week we focus on establishing communication, getting into a routine, leash skills, and emotional regulation. During the second week we teach new skills, introduce distractions, and work on building training stamina. By the third week your dog is sequencing skills while we work on refinement training.
2. THREE PRIVATE LESSONS
During the three private one on one follow up sessions we will focus on coaching YOU on what your dog has learned! We will focus on:

Setting your dog up for success

Improved timing and handling

Finding issues and troubleshooting scenarios

Weaving training into your daily routine

And much more!
The human aspect is critical for long term success and results! We welcome you to join us at the K9O Center in Sperryville, schedule a home visit, or arrange for real-world llessons!
3. MAINTENANCE CLASSES
Receive 4 credits as part of the program to join other K9ology students for our Maintenance Class, where we practice improving handling skills, control around distractions, and fine tuning. Choose to come any time in the 4 month grace period to ask questions, get feedback, and continue improving your skills!
IN ADDITION, YOU WILL RECEIVE:

A custom Youtube channel showing your dog learning skills and executing exercises!

Step-by-step training handouts and supplemental materials to refer back to once your dog is home!
Participants learn a variety of skills and commands based on each individual dog's needs, household dynamics, and lifestyle. All dogs learn critical learning and communication concepts including:

The application of a marker (yes or clicker)

The use of an interrupter (no, removal)

The difference between a reward and a bribe
-
Eye contact, focus, and engagement with name recognition

Emotional regulation for interaction
-
Leash and walking skills
-
Potty on command
We know that training is not a one-size-fits-all situation, which is why we use positive reinforcement and rewards with all dogs - but will supplement tools and additional approaches based on each individual participant.
We generally cover 5-6 skills as part of the board and learn journey. Sample programs are listed below with customizations options if you have a show dog, bird dog, shop dog, or other specific goals.
PUPPY HEAD START

Ideal for dogs with little or no prior training, or those requiring trouble shooting on basic control.

This program introduces distractions and fine tuning your dog to all of the skills covered in our Foundations program, plus:

Great for dogs who have the basics and benefit from additional skills and fine tuning. Excellent for impulsive dogs who forget their manners and need refinement training.

We are happy to collaborate with owners on a custom bootcamp option to suit training needs. We can tailor a program for:
